Is the FZ6R a good ride jack for a customization project?
The Yamaha FZ6R has been around for a few years now and has developed a healthy aftermarket and a following of people who enjoy modifying their bikes. What’s been sparked in the debate is whether or not the FZ6R could be a platform for customization. But some riders say its simplicity and the availability of parts makes it a great bike to modify, while others maintain that there are better base models for custom projects. Most of the discussion revolves around the various types of modifications, from the simple bolt on accessories to more involved performance upgrades and even full custom builds. Riders will share their experiences with mods, and how that impacts performance, looks and overall riding experience. It also discusses whether modifying an FZ6R makes financial sense, or if it’s better to begin with a different model, and how the resale value might be affected. There are those who say the FZ6R is best left stock, and others who say that by modifying the FZ6R you can have a personalized riding experience.
Absolutely! The FZ6R is a blank canvas. I’ve seen everything from cafe racers to streetfighters built on this platform. Sky's the limit!
Basic mods are ok, but for serious performance upgrades you should start with a different bike. The FZ6R has limitations.
It’s nice and easy to work on. There’s plenty of aftermarket support and the design is simple enough to easily do DIY mods. Really great bike to learn wrenching on.
Meh, it's alright. It can do some cool stuff, but at the end of the day its still an FZ6R. Better platforms out there for custom builds.
Best thing about modding the FZ6R is you can make it into whatever kind of bike you want. Sport tourer? Check. Commuter? Check. Weekend canyon carver? Check.
The bike cost more than I put into mods, and I wouldn't change a thing. It’s like I have a custom bike made just for me.
It’s honestly better off not touching it. The design was good by Yamaha and most mods just make it worse. Instead, spend your money on gear and gas.
Subtle, tasteful mods are what the FZ6R is all about. It’s really something you can really enhance the strengths of without going overboard. But it’s all about finding that balance.
