Is the FZ07 outdated in 2025, or is it still relevant in 2025?

The Yamaha FZ-07 (MT-07) has been around since 2014 and has been a crowd pleaser in the middleweight naked bike class. But by 2025, the motorcycle market is having so many new entries and updates from different manufacturers. But it does beg the question of whether the FZ-07’s design, performance, and feature set are technically up to date in today’s field. Its simplicity and proven reliability have seen it remain relevant, say some; others argue that electronics, engine design and chassis technology have made it obsolete. Often the debate revolves around whether rider aids are important, whether analog or digital is more appealing, and the balance between performance and value. Comparisons to newer models from Yamaha and its competitors are also common, and there’s talk of what the FZ-07 platform may be updated to. This is a question that asks riders to question what makes a motorcycle relevant, and how much you should value outright performance versus character and accessibility.

Absolutely still relevant. The engine is bulletproof on the FZ-07 and it’s a timeless design. Not all of us need or want all the latest electronic gizmos.

No, it’s pretty outdated now. There’s no rider aids and that basic suspension setup just doesn't cut it anymore. There are much better options.

Yamaha really needs to update this bike, it’s still a great bike, but it’s getting old. A little more power, better suspension, and some basic traction control would be a long way.

More than ever, the FZ-07 is relevant. It’s refreshing in a world of overpowered, over complicated bikes. This is all the bike you need for the street.

It's not fun but it's outclassed features wise. In a world of digital everything sometimes you just want an analog experience.

I’d say it’s still relevant for beginners or as a second bike but experienced riders will likely want something more advanced by now.

The chassis needs work, the engine is still competitive. They'd be right back at the top of the class if Yamaha updated the suspension and brakes.

Honest to God, it's been left behind. For not much more money, bikes such as the Triumph Trident and Aprilia Tuono 660 offer so much more.

Who cares about relevance? A cheap to run, easy to maintain fun, reliable bike. It’s never going out of style.

If you make it relevant, it’s relevant. You can get a few choice mods to bring it up to modern standards, and still save money over buying new.
