Is the fact that the Scorpio Classic is not an automatic a big deal?

by Ashutoshover 1 year ago0 views5 comments
Only available with a manual transmission, the Mahindra Scorpio Classic is becoming rare in its segment. Automatic options are provided by many competitors and are often preferred for ease of use in city traffic, or by less experienced drivers. Perhaps, Scorpio Classic’s lack of automatic variants could impede its expanded popularity. A manual transmission would suit the Scorpio's rugged, enthusiast image, but some think it's a big oversight in a modern SUV. The gearbox, a 6 speed manual in the Scorpio Classic, has received mixed reactions, some praise the better smoothness over the previous generation, while some had problems with the gear shifts. As automatics become the standard in a market, particularly in urban areas, does Scorpio Classic missing out on this option hold it back, or does it end up harking back to its identity and appealing to its fan base?

It depends on your use case, I think. The manual is great for enthusiasts — and rural drivers. However, because there is no auto option, urban families that are looking for a comfortable SUV might simply opt for other brands. This might be costing Mahindra a big chunk of potential buyers.

These days people depend too much on automatics. The manual makes you more involved with the driving, and is more reliable in the long run. It's also better for towing and off road situations. Mahindra did the right thing here.

I'm torn on this. It’s fun when you are in the mood, but there are days I wish I could just relax and let the car shift. Could Mahindra offer both options?

No automatic? That's a deal-breaker for me. It’s just too much hassle and I spend hours driving in city traffic. Not offering an auto option is really limiting Mahindra's market.

In fact, the manual only option is actually a plus for me. It gives me control off road or in tricky driving conditions, which I love. And that's just part of the reason why the Scorpio feels like a proper SUV.
