Is the Emeya's design language a Lotus, or is it just too generic?
The Lotus Emeya’s design is a radical departure from the company’s usual sports car looks. It blends some Lotus design cues with a lot of modern electric luxury sedan conventions. As a result, the Emeya has sparked debate over how well it captures Lotus's design philosophy in a new segment, and whether it becomes too removed from the brand's visual identity in the process. The discussion also touches on the importance of brand recognition for EVs, how to design them, and a fine balance between novel styling and market traction in the luxury car segment.
It shares a similar blob shape to every other EV out there. Where's the Lotus DNA?
I think it's gorgeous. Futuristic, sleek, with a bit of Lotus flair still. There’s no way to expect it to look like an Elise, folks.
It's the front end that's pretty distinctive, but the rest is a little forgettable. A missed opportunity to really stand out.
It's growing on me. The more I look at it, the more I see Lotus touches. It has just evolved for a new era.
Generic? No way. The EV is one of the best looking out there. It beats the hell out of a Tesla any day.
It’s fine design, but it doesn’t say ‘Lotus’ to me. It could be any luxury brand, really.
I like that they didn't go too far with fake vents and agressive styling. Just like a Lotus should be, it's clean and purposeful.
