Is the Discover 125M’s build quality issue overblown or is it a real thing?

Some owners have complained about build quality and long term reliability on the Bajaj Discover line, including the 125M. Early onset of rust, electrical gremlins and plastic parts that don’t age well are common complaints. Though, many Discover owners remain loyal, claiming that these problems are blown out of proportion or found on early production runs only. Its popularity is pointed to and so are the improvements made over time by Bajaj. It also brings to fore broader perceptions of Indian vs. Japanese build quality in this segment. Are the reported problems just the issue with spares for a motorcycle in the budget commuter’s price range, or are there other quality control issues with the bike?

I believe the real problem is of Bajaj's service centres. The bike is fine, but good luck getting consistent quality repairs under warranty.

It's a budget bike but people forget. Of course, it’s not going to feel as premium as more expensive options. If you take care of it, it gets the job done reliably.

The electrical issues are a real pain in the ass. In 30,000 km I had to replace the wiring harness twice. That's not normal wear and tear.

Bajaj has definitely made improvements, the early models had issues. My friend has a 2020 model of the 125M, and my 2024 125M feels much more solid.

You get what you pay for. It’s not Honda build quality, but it’s not Honda pricing. At the price, it's totally acceptable.

It's hit or miss. The replacement has been rock solid, but my first Discover was a lemon. Bajaj's QC seems inconsistent.

Nah, the problems are real. I baby that thing and my 125M developed rust spots within 6 months.

It's way overblown. I have had my 125M for 3 years with no issues. They just don't take care of their bikes and then blame the manufacturer.
