Is the detachable rear seat on the Shotgun 350 just a gimmick or is it actually practical?
Unique to the Royal Enfield Shotgun 350 is a detachable rear seat. This design element lets riders go from a solo bobber look to a two up configuration. This feature is certainly a boon to the bike’s versatility, but it does beg the question of how practical it will be in the real world. Some riders like the flexibility it brings, and others wonder how easy it is to store the seat when removed, how easy it is to attach and detach the seat, and whether the installed seat is comfortable enough for a passenger. It then often expands to more general issues, such as the balance between form and function in motorcycle design, what the needs of different types of riders are, and whether or not such features bring value or unnecessary complexity to a motorcycle.
It's pretty cool. Have your cake and eat it too - solo style when you want, pillion ready when you need.
Sounds like a pain. Now where am I supposed to put the seat when it's off?
The idea is neat, but I imagine that most people will only ever leave it on or never leave it on at all.
It could be great for photoshoots and meetups. An easy way to change the look up.
I would worry about it rattling or coming loose. I really hope RE did their homework on the mounting.
It's solving a problem that didn’t really exist. Who moves seats that much?
This might come in handy when you’re carrying extra gear on solo rides. Like a mini luggage rack.
If it's easy to change, it could be ideal for those spur of the moment rides with a friend.
