Is the CT125X Drum only a city commuter, or can it really handle long distance touring?
The Bajaj CT125X Drum is meant to be a tough city commuter, but some owners have used it for longer trips. It has given rise to discussions on the bike’s versatility, if it can truly deal with highway rides for extended periods or light touring duties. Its comfortable riding position, decent fuel efficiency and sturdy build make it a good distance machine, say proponents. Touring friendly features they also point to the luggage rack and spacious seat. However, critics say the front disc brakes are missing, the suspension is rudimentary and the power output is modest so it isn't suited to highway speeds or various terrain. The debate often revolves around the expectations with which 125cc motorcycles in India are expected to perform roles that go beyond simple commuting. Discussions also arise about whether such a basic bike is appropriate for long trips or whether it just makes the trip more adventurous, or rather impractical and perhaps even unsafe.
I took my CT125X on a 300km round trip and it did great! It’s no tourer, sure, but for weekend getaways it’s more than up to the task.
