Is the CNG variant of the WagonR actually worth it in the long run?

The Maruti WagonR CNG variant has become a popular choice as an eco friendlier and cost effective version of the petrol model. The initial cost is higher, but many buyers are drawn to the promise of lower running costs and lower emissions. But there are debates about whether, in the long term, the CNG variant actually delivers on these promises. Some users report fuel costs savings of up to 65 percent, while others complain about loss of performance and increased maintenance costs. The ownership experience may also be dependent on how many and how readily available CNG filling stations are in the region. Also, concern exists with regards to the effect that CNG conversion has on the longevity and resale value of the car. As a result, talks have broken out between potential buyers and current owners over whether to go for the CNG variant or just stick to the traditional petrol model for the longer term.

Absolutely worth it! For the past 3 years I've been driving a WagonR CNG and my fuel costs have literally halved. It pays for itself pretty quickly as an initial investment.

Not worth it in my opinion. It’s noticeable in the performance drop and can be a pain to find CNG stations. Since I’d rather stick to petrol and be at peace with it.

It depends on your usage. If you’re doing high mileage daily, then CNG is the way to go. For occasional drivers, however, they may not find it worth the hassle of finding CNG stations.

I love the idea of it for the environment, but I hate how much boot space is lost. Now it can barely fit my groceries in there.

The savings are nice, but I don’t want to risk the engine in the long run. Any CNG WagonR owners who have had this car more than 5 years without major issues?

If you live in a city with good CNG infrastructure, it’s worth it. It's super convenient and I'm in Delhi. In smaller towns, though, might be a different story.

I decided to switch to CNG and I regret it. Now the car just feels underpowered specially on highways. I don’t think saving money is worth the compromised driving experience.
