Is the Chetak Urbane’s range fear in everyday commuter’s life?
The Bajaj Chetak Urbane promises a range of around 90 km on a full charge, but real world figures could be quite different. As a result, users, especially those using the scooter for daily commutes, have been discussing range anxiety. Riding style, terrain, weather conditions and payload all play a part in range. However, some users are getting close to the claimed range, while others are falling short, particularly in power mode or with a pillion rider. It also debates the range adequacy for urban use versus suburban or longer commutes. We also think about how the range compares to the fuel stops for petrol scooters and if the convenience of being able to charge at home outweighs the need to charge more often. They also talk about ways to manage range anxiety, from careful trip planning to carrying a charger to top up at work or at public charging points.
Range anxiety? What range anxiety? I commute about 30 km daily and have to charge every 2-3 days. It’s actually less stressful than fretting about fuel prices and looking for petrol pumps.
I don't know, man. My commute is 25 km each way and I always feel worried whether I will be able to make it back home, especially when I need to run a errand after work. In real world conditions, the range isn’t what it’s advertised.
That really depends on how you ride. If I stick to Eco mode and don’t accelerate aggressively, I can get pretty close to the claimed range. It's just getting used to.
City use is fine with the range, but it would limit you for longer trips. It’s happened a couple of times that I’ve had to cancel weekend plans, because I wasn’t sure I would get there and back without charging.
I believe that the range anxiety is more psychological than practical for most users. After a few days, you get in the habit of plugging it in every night and it becomes no different than charging your phone.
I know this, as I used to ride a petrol scooter and actually find the Chetak less anxiety inducing. No more last minute rushes to the petrol pump because I'm running late!
It has a bit tight range for my liking. If Bajaj had chosen to go for a slightly bigger battery, it could have been at a higher price, but I wish it had. An extra 20-30 km of range would be a big difference in peace of mind.
