Is the BYD e6 a glorified taxi or a legitimate family car?

In many countries the BYD e6 is a popular taxi, and in Singapore it has been used extensively. Some people, therefore, have viewed it as primarily a fleet vehicle. But its roomy interior, big battery and respectable range could make it a possible family car. The question is if its background as a taxi makes it less desirable in personal use, or if its sturdy build quality and reliability makes it a great family car to have a reliable electric vehicle. Others say it's built to last as its taxi heritage, while others feel it lacks the refinement and features you would expect of a modern family car.

I’ve driven the e6 and other EVs and it’s definitely more than just a taxi. It's insane inside, and the ride quality is actually really good. Sure, it’s not as fancy as other EVs, but for a family that needs a reliable workhorse, it’s fairly solid.

No way, man. It's all taxi through and through. Have you seen the interior? It feels like being transported to 2010. Families should get better features and comfort for their money.

I don’t think it’s a glorified taxi. The durability e6 was designed for, is actually a huge plus for families. How many "family cars" can take the daily abuse this thing can?

It's kind of both, honestly. It's built like a tank because of taxi heritage, which is great for reliability. That's also why it's pretty basic inside. That’s perfect for some families. For others it may feel too utilitarian.

As a family guy with one, I can tell you it’s legit. It’s unbeatable space, and the low maintenance of an EV is a godsend. Is it as flashy as a Tesla? Nah. It does the job without fuss, but it does it.
