Is the BYD Dolphin's wind noise at high speeds a no-go?
A quiet ride is high on the list for many EV enthusiasts making the switch from gas powered vehicles. It is reported that at speeds over 110 km/h the BYD Dolphin has noticeable wind noise. But this issue has caused debates among potential buyers and owners about whether it’s a deal breaker or a trivial inconvenience. Others say it's to be expected in this price range, while others would like to see better control of a modern EV. Often the discussion leads to comparisons with other EVs in the segment and debates about the trade off between price, features, build quality. It also makes you question if you can do it yourself, and if it’s worth the risk.
It’s not a deal breaker for me. Seriously, how many times do you actually go 110+ km/h? In all likelihood, it's not even noticeable for daily commutes and city driving.
I drove one and the wind noise was pretty bad. It wasn’t just about the high speeds, it made the whole car feel less premium. Instead I went for an MG4.
I do a lot of highway driving, and it would bother me. I've heard that some weather stripping and door seals will fix it. If you like everything else about the car it might be worth the DIY effort.
I don’t think people are being too picky. This is not a luxury car, it's an affordable EV. If you need perfect silence at high speed, be prepared to pay a lot more.
Wind noise is a symptom of cost cutting. I wonder what other corners they’ve cut that we cannot see or hear.
I actually find wind noise comforting a bit. I don’t like the complete silence in a car. I don't mind it as long as it is not too loud.
It's all relative. The Dolphin is whisper quiet compared to my old gas car, though there is a bit of wind noise. It's all about perspective.
