Is the Ashok Leyland Dost Plus LE reliable for daily heavy duty usage as compared to other competitors?
Reliability is a critical aspect for any commercial vehicle, particularly for small business owners who rely on their LCVs for daily activities. As a promotional slogan, however, the Ashok Leyland Dost Plus LE is marketed to its strengths as a sturdy and reliable workhorse and so how does such praise stand up to its various roles in the heavy duty work day? Reliability of the vehicle is dependent on factors like frequency of breakdowns, durability of components, ease of maintenance and longevity of the vehicle. Dive into the learnings of Dost Plus LE owners who have been pushing their LEs to the extremes, doing multiple daily trips, with varying loads and often across different terrains. On paper, how does this compare to the likes of Tata Intra or Mahindra Supro in terms of being on the road and out of the workshop?
Decent, but not bulletproof as Ashok Leyland claims. The clutch has worn out faster than I expected and the suspension sags a bit under constant heavy loads.
The Dost Plus LE is more reliable compared to the Tata Intra that I came from. They seem to be better at mitigating the overloading (and I do not over load things) and the engine feels less fragile.
It seems like an above average heavy duty use but not extraordinary. Nothing major that left me stranded but I have had a few electrical niggles that were annoying to deal with.
The Dost Plus LE is a tank in my experience. I use it for my business, construction supply, and it just keeps going, even on rough roads with heavy loads. Definitely more reliable than my old Mahindra Supro.
Well, I believe that it depends on how well you maintain it. I service religiously, and the Dost has been trouble free for 100,000 km of hard use. The more things get slacked on, the more issues come up among said friends.
It's reliable, but not invincible. The clutch has worn out sooner than expected, and the brake pads wear out quickly if you are doing a lot of stop and go driving with the heavy load.
Having owned both the Dost and the Tata Intra, the Dost wins out in terms of reliability. It seems to tolerate abuse better and when something does have a problem it is cheaper and quicker to fix.
I have had a mixed bag with the Dost Plus LE. In terms of engine reliability it is great, but I have had ongoing problems with the electrical system that have been very frustrating to deal with.
8/10 for the Dost Plus LE for daily heavy duty. Not perfect but it is much more reliable than any other LCV I have owned. As long as you keep to the maintenance schedule is will take anything you throw at it.
