Is the Aprilia SR 160 Race worth the premium?

Sukhmandeep Kaur on 16 January 2025 07:40
Aprilia SR 160 Race is priced at a premium over popular 125cc and 150cc scooters from Honda and TVS. But it also has some drawbacks: stiffer ride quality and higher maintenance costs. Is that extra cost justified for urban riders looking for a fun, fast scooter? Are more practical options a better choice for most, or? It is important to weigh pros and cons of this Italian performance scooter in the Indian market and look at factors like daily usability, long term reliability, resale value and overall owning experience of this machine.

If you want a scooter that actually feels exciting to ride, it’s absolutely worth it. Performance wise it's in a different league than boring commuter scooters.

Not worth it for most people. You’re paying a huge premium for marginally better performance. And for daily use, nothing beats a Honda Activa, it will be way more practical and reliable.

That depends on what’s important to you. If you are looking for the sportiest scooter experience and don't mind paying higher running costs, go for it. However, for pure practicality sake, there are better options.

Just for the looks and brand value, I’d say it’s worth it. Compared to mass market scooters, riding an Aprilia feels special. You’re getting the premium experience and you’re paying for it.

Definitely not worth it. It was unreliable, overpriced and impractical. If you want performance get a motorcycle, if you want practicality, get a regular scooter.

If you’re an enthusiast who places a premium on the finer points of vehicle dynamics, the premium is justified. SR 160 Race handles way better than regular scooters.

Sure, it's a niche product, but it does fill that niche well. The SR 160 Race is the scooter that can hang with bigger bikes on twisty roads if you want one.

If you can afford the higher maintenance costs long term I'd say it's worth it. However, if not, stick to Japanese brands as they have better reliability and lower running costs.
