Is the Aprilia SR 160 Race fuel efficient enough for a daily commuter?

Sukhmandeep Kaur on 16 January 2025 07:40
As a performance scooter, the SR 160 Race is marketed to be more fuel efficient than economy focused models. As a daily commuter vehicle, riders need to know how this actually does with real world fuel consumption. How does the mileage change between city riding and highway riding? How much does aggressive riding affect fuel economy? Are there any features or modes that can save fuel? Check how efficient is it in comparison to other scooters and motorcycles in the same category. Think about how the larger fuel tank capacity of the SR 160 Race will impact overall range between fill-ups, too. This information is essential for a potential buyer to compute long term running costs and see if the scooter is within his budget and usage pattern.

Not great but not terrible either. I get about 35–40 kmpl in the city with mixed riding. 45-50 kmpl is better on highway mileage.

The SR 160's weak point is fuel efficiency. It's thirsty if you ride it hard. If you drive constantly in traffic then expect 30–35 kmpl.

For its performance, it's actually pretty decent. Overall I average about 40–45 kmpl, not too far off from what slower 125cc scooters are getting.

Mileage is ok but small tank is annoying. While the km/l figure might be the same, you’ll be filling up more often than with other scooters.

It's all about how you ride. I can get 50+ kmpl being gentle with the throttle. Then, what’s the point of buying a performance scooter?

Premium fuel costs add up, but mileage is okay. If you’re comparing running costs with regular scooters that use normal petrol, factor that in.

However, it is acceptable fuel efficiency for a daily commuter. If that is your primary concern, however, there are much more frugal options.

For the performance that it provides, the fuel efficiency is perfectly reasonable. It’s not supposed to be a gas guzzler, but it’s not an economy champion either.
