Is the Aprilia RSV4 1100 Factory a bike too much for the street?

A beast of a machine, the Aprilia RSV4 1100 Factory puts forth 217 horsepower and cutting edge technology. It's a race track car, with aerodynamic winglets, a race tuned chassis, etc. However, many riders are attracted to using it as their daily ride or weekend warrior. But does a bike this high performance actually make sense for everyday street riding? Are its capabilities wasted on public roads? Does it take too much self control to ride responsibly? Or can skilled riders really appreciate what it can do, even within legal limits? We’re going to discuss the pluses and minuses of using this track weapon on the streets.

Absolutely not! Daily my RSV4 and it's a dream. You can’t use all 217 horses, but the bike is so well balanced it is a joy at legal speeds as well. Nothing beats that V4 sound on my commute either, plus.

It's way overkill for the street. I had one, and sold it after a year. I always thought I was just barely able to scratch the surface of its capabilities. I got a naked bike instead, and having much more fun.

Depends on where you live. It can be amazing if you have some nice twisty roads nearby. So what about in heavy traffic in straight highways? Total waste.

If you have self control, I think it's fine. It’s surprisingly manageable with the electronics. You have to be honest with yourself, though, if you can’t resist the temptation to go nuts, then maybe something a little tamer is in order.

Too much bike? No such thing! Seriously, a superbike is actually pretty comfy with the RSV4. Mine has done some long trips without issue.

It's not just a question of power – the ergonomics are brutal for street use. An hour in and my wrists and back were killing me. Great bike, though the wrong application of it.

In some ways I'd argue it's safer than a smaller bike. You have more control in an emergency situation thanks to brakes and suspension that are top notch.

It’s overkill, yes, but who cares? There's no point in riding boring bikes when life's too short. You can’t enjoy all the power, but you can use it.

The real problem is attention from cops. Even if you behave, ride a bike like that, and you're just asking to get pulled over.

It's all about the rider. But it's an amazing street bike in the right hands. It's a disaster waiting to happen, in the wrong hands. Know your limits.
