Is the Alto's small size unsafe or is it in fact an advantage in Indian traffic?
Safety has always been a debatable point regarding the Maruti Alto, because of its compact dimensions. One is that because of its small size, it is nimble and easy to take through crowded Indian streets, which might help avoid accidents. It's a big plus in crowded cities, as it's also easier to park in tight spaces. But critics say its small frame provides less protection if it is struck by a larger vehicle. It's also not clear how stable it will be at higher speeds or in crosswinds. The debate also includes whether the Alto’s size makes it more vulnerable for being bullied on the road by bigger vehicles. It makes some owners feel vulnerable in it, while other owners praise its ability to squeeze through gaps in traffic. But the broader question still remains – are Indian roads and traffic conditions right for larger cars or are compact vehicles like the Alto more safer overall in our traffic ecosystem?
Small size is a lifesaver in the city traffic. I can shimmy into places that SUVs can only wish they could get their fat asses into.
