Is the Alfa Romeo Brera a pretty face or a true driver's car?

Of course, the Alfa Romeo Brera, designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro, is a stunning example of automotive design. Beyond the gorgeous exterior, there’s debate among enthusiasts about whether the Alfa Romeo delivers the driving experience you’d expect from an Alfa Romeo. There is much praise for its handling and performance, particularly in V6 form but others say it’s too heavy and not as agile as later Alfas. This discussion concerns the car’s weight distribution, suspension setup, and (if it is available) engine options. The debate of course is further complicated by the fact that the Brera is a grand tourer not a pure sports car. Is it too sporty, or not sporty enough?

I'd call it 70% pretty face, 30% driver's car. It's no Alfa's most engaging, but it's not boring either. Also, if you park it up the looks are hard to beat.

At least, that's what I can say as an owner of several Alfas, the Brera is a different beast. It's not as raw as older Alfas, but there's something nice about it. In my book, it is a driver's car on the V6 sound alone.

The Brera is the result of design at the expense of dynamics. It's stunning but no Alfa 'magic' in the driving department. It's more show than go.

People are too harsh on the Brera, I think. Its not intended to be a track weapon. A stylish, comfortable coupe with enough poke to be fun. In that regard, it certainly does.

Pretty face? Absolutely. Driver's car? Eh, not so much. The chassis isn't quite as sharp as it could be, and it's too heavy. Alfa missed the mark of making it a true sports car.

It’s a driver’s car, just not in the same way as a 4C. It’s a little bit more of a GT, comfortable for long trips, but still fun when you want to push it. Pure Alfa is the steering feel.

I've driven the Brera and the 159 and the 159 just felt more nimble. It's a gorgeous Brera, but it's a bit of a porker. Cruising is great, carving corners, not so much.

I’m a Brera owner and can confirm it’s a lot more than eye candy. The sound out of the V6 is fantastic and it pulls hard. It may not be the sharpest tool in the shed, but it’s a great all rounder for daily use and weekend fun.
