Is owning a Thar a bad driver or that is a stereotype?
Indian road users are increasingly getting the impression that Mahindra Thar owners are aggressive and reckless drivers who think they own the road. Thar drivers have been in the news many times for antics like tailgating, cutting in front of cars, and basically ignoring traffic rules altogether and this stereotype has been fueled further. The Thar's towering size and the fact that it can go off road is thought to breed a sense of driver invincibility. Some say that we cannot say all Thar owners are bad because of actions of a few. Even the debate continues as to whether certain personality types, or do they just happen to find themselves in that type of vehicles. It has sparked ruckus about road safety, driver education and the responsibilities of having a powerful vehicle like Thar in your hands.
It’s just a stereotype, that’s all. I have seen enough responsible Thar drivers who follow traffic rules and are nice on the road. There are bad drivers in every type of vehicle.
