Is modifying a WagonR a cool trend or a waste of money?

Question

Over the last few years, the number of WagonR owners modifying their cars has been increasing; from simple cosmetic changes to performance upgrades. This has led to discussions within the automotive community about whether it makes sense to modify a budget friendly, practical car like the WagonR or not, to make it into something it’s not. But some enthusiasts say it’s about taking a vehicle and making it more fun to drive and personal to the owner’s taste’ by performing modifications to improve the vehicle’s aesthetics and performance. Some say the money spent on modifications would be better spent on another car, as the WagonR has basic design and engineering limitations that make it unsuitable for serious modifications. In this piece, we ask ourselves, why would anyone tamper with their WagonR and is it a trend that adds some value to the ownership experience or is it simply a waste of resources?

Putting lipstick on a pig is what modifying a WagonR is like. At the end of the day, it’s still a WagonR. Instead, save up for a car that’s meant to be sporty.

I’ve seen some really cool modified WagonRs. It's an all creative thing, what you want your car to be able to reflect your personality. Who cares what others think?

@raj-kiran · Answer

It is a fun hobby to have, but don’t expect to impress anyone. If you wanted something sportier, most people will just wonder why you didn’t buy a different car.

I changed the suspension of my WagonR and it drives so much better now. Mods can really improve the car if you know what you are doing.

@sanjay-kum · Answer

Depends on the mods. Better tires or a nice stereo, any of those things. Sure. Neon underglow and huge spoilers? On a WagonR that's just silly.

@shantanu-s · Answer

Total waste of money. This is not a race car, it’s a practical family car. Instead of spending that cash on a better sound system or something useful.

I think it's cool! The body kit and alloy wheels I added make my WagonR look way better. Think of it as a custom car without the expense.
