Is MG M9 EV capable of changing the perception of MG as a premium brand in India?

It may be noted that MG Motor entered the Indian market only recently and has been trying to establish itself as a premium brand. For the company in India, the launch of the M9 EV marks a major step up in luxury and price point. The move also questions brand perception and if Indian consumers are ready to buy into MG as a true luxury player. The M9 EV will be taking on established luxury brands and their EVs. It’s not just about the features of the car but how good is the brand’s reputation, after sales service, overall ownership experience. The other thing is MG's Chinese ownership, which has been a point of discussion in the Indian market. So, let’s see if the M9 EV has what it takes to bring MG’s brand to a new level and compete with the big names in the luxury segment.

No chance. In India, MG still has that budget brand image. It's not going to change overnight just because you slap a high price tag on a car.

I think it could work. See how Kia changed its image. If the M9 does what it promises, it could change the game for MG.

The real test will be after sales service. Top notch treatment is expected from luxury car buyers. Can MG deliver on that front?

It's not about one car, it's about consistency. Maybe they can change perceptions if MG follows up with more premium offerings.

I'm skeptical. The luxury market is tough to crack. Decades of reputation are behind them.

The Chinese connection might actually help here. See what phones like OnePlus have done in the premium segment.

It's a smart move by MG. If they don’t crack the luxury market entirely, this will certainly boost their overall brand image.
