Is MG Comet EV actually a practical car for Indian cities?
The MG Comet EV is a lot of talk as a compact electric urban vehicle. Small enough to promise easy maneuverability in crowded streets and tight parking spots. But some say its short range and small cargo space render it impractical for most Indian families. In addition, people are concerned about its safety features and ability to withstand rough road conditions too. The critics say you’d be better off with a more versatile conventional hatchback, while supporters say it’s great for short commutes and running errands around town. The discussion about the practicality of the Comet brings up issues like electric vehicle adoption, evolving transportation needs of India's fast growing cities and broader concerns of urban mobility.

The lack of fast charging is a deal breaker, so I was considering it, but … If I have to take an unforeseen longer trip, what then? For now, I’ll stick with my Tiago EV.

It all depends on your needs. Having lived in Bangalore with horrible traffic, the Comet has been a game changer for me. In a larger car, I can’t squeeze through gaps and find parking spots that would be impossible.

People are missing the point I think. It’s not supposed to be everything car. It's a brilliant purpose built city runabout. If you need a second car for short trips, this is perfect.

This is a glorified golf cart. Let’s be real. Yes, parking might be easy, but so is a bicycle. At least a bike won’t leave you stranded when the battery dies. Hard pass for me.

It was a bit skeptical at first, but when test driven, I'm impressed. It has enough power for city driving and the interior is more spacious than you'd think. Not for everybody, but for my daily commute, it's perfect.

Practical? Of course, if you’re single and only drive within the city, maybe. It's way too limited for a family or anyone who has to be out of town occasionally. With a normal hatchback that can do it all, you are better off.

I’ve been driving the Comet for 6 months now, and it’s surprisingly practical for city use. Parking is no problem and driving through traffic is a breeze. I only used my other car a couple times since getting it.
