Is lacking modern features such as fuel injection, an ABS braking system, and much more a deal breaker or an old fashioned charm for the Royal Enfield Bullet 250?
The Royal Enfield Bullet 250 is the quintessential basic motorbike, with few features that are taken for granted on today’s motorbikes. It also includes basic elements, such as electric start (on some models), fuel injection and advanced electronics. Some riders like it simple, and that’s more pure fun, while others find it frustrating, and maybe even dangerous. The debate is often over whether these omissions enhance the classic riding experience, or are just outdated and impractical. Backers say that a lack of modern features makes riders more attuned to their rides, detrackers, meanwhile, say that it’s too hard, and possibly dangerous, especially for newer riders. Often, this discussion turns into bigger discussions about a balance of tradition and progress in motorcyle design.
The lack of modern features is what I adore about the Bullet 250 for me. It’s a raw, pure riding experience. It’s you, the bike and just the road with no fancy electronics or rider aids. Motorcycling at its most basic.
Deal-breaker, no doubt. We live in 2025, not 1950. I want ABS, fuel injection and a reliable electrical system. Having none of these on the Bullet 250 is not charming, it's dangerous and inconvenient.
That depends on what you are using the bike for. It’s great for a weekend cruiser or for a restoration project. Lacking modern features however, the lack can be a real pain for a daily commuter or long distance tourer.
I think that is part of the appeal, but RE could hit a better balance. Classic look and feel, but with some basic modern safety features. It doesn’t have to be high tech, just reliable and safe.
If you’re an experienced rider and know what you’re getting into, the lack of features is fine. It can really be overwhelming, though, for newbies. That’s not for everyone, and that’s okay.
