In real-world riding, how does the KTM 1290 Super Duke R compare to its competitors?

Question

In the hyper-naked segment, it’s a competition to the death with the likes of the Ducati Streetfighter V4, BMW S1000R, and Aprilia Tuono V4 all fighting for the top spot. Spec sheets and magazine reviews can tell us so much, but often real-world riding experiences can paint a different picture. In a world of increasingly heavy and lumbering superbikes, how does the KTM 1290 Super Duke R stack up when it comes to everyday usability, character, and the riding experience? Now let’s compare “The Beast” with other top-tier naked bikes based on actual rider feedback and experience.

I test rode all of them and chose the Super Duke R, as it felt the most like a proper street bike. I thought the others were more like stripped-down sport bikes.

@kalika-dub · Answer

I think the Japanese bikes, like the MT 10, provide better value. The KTM is awesome, but for marginal gains in performance, you’re paying a lot.

@kunal-vikr · Answer

Great bikes, but the Super Duke R just makes me smile bigger. It’s hard to quantify, but it just feels more exciting to ride than the others.

@awadhesh-n · Answer

I’m coming from a Tuono V4, and while I do miss the sound, the KTM is a better all-rounder. It's more comfortable, has a better fuel range, and feels lighter on its feet.

@prem-shank · Answer

The Super Duke might not have as much peak power as the Streetfighter V4, but its torque makes it feel just as fast in the real world. It’s also more comfortable for longer rides, plus.

@kuldeep-te · Answer

I really like the S1000R. It’s a blast on the KTM, but the BMW is more refined and easier to live with day to day. The dealer network is better plus.

@abhinit-ku · Answer

I've ridden most of the big naked bikes, and the Super Duke R just feels different. It’s just so much more character on the V-twin compared to the inline fours, and the chassis is so nimble for a bike that’s so powerful.
