As with any motorcycle market, pricing is always a key point, and in the adventure bike segment, the competition is very high. For the hypothetical KTM 490 Adventure to stand any chance, it will need to be priced competitively—bridging the gap between the 390 and 790 models—to do so. Riders are asked to think about the middleweight value proposition of a KTM adventure bike and where are the features and performance metrics are that would make this price point be acceptable. Comparisons with other brands in that class and a conversation about whether the KTM brand has a premium anywhere are common discussion points. Worth also includes factors such as expected maintenance costs, resale value, and the capabilities of the bike on and off-road, but riders might want to take these into account when deciding if the price is worth it. This conversation can tell us a lot about what different riders value in the various aspects of adventure bikes and what they choose to prioritize when making buying decisions.

I'd pay up to $8,500 for it. If I had any more than that, I'd have just saved up for the 790.

The 390 Adventure is close to $6,500, so $7,500 would be a great price for the 490.

I’d go up to $9,000 if it’s really capable off-road. It’s worth paying for KTM’s off-road tech.

Not more than $7,000. But at the end of the day, it’s still just a middleweight bike. There was anything more, and you're in 650cc territory from other brands.

If it had adjustable suspension and a TFT display, I would stretch to $8,000.

Honestly, it’s probably around $10,000. They are expensive, but if you’re serious about adventure riding, they are usually worth it.

No more than $7,500. We’re talking about a bike that doesn’t even exist. To attract buyers away from established models, it has to be priced competitively.
