How will the Skoda Elroq’s performance and handling stack up against sportier electric SUVs?

The top end of the Skoda Elroq range has 285hp and can go from 0 to 100km/h in 6.6 seconds. These figures are respectable for a family SUV, but don’t quite match up to some of the more performance oriented electric SUVs out there. The Elroq appears to be about offering a good blend of performance, efficiency and practicality without being outrageously sporty. Most have a rear wheel drive setup, though some markets offer an all wheel drive version. Set up in a typical suspension system, with an optional adaptive setup, comfort is prioritised over handling capabilities. While traditional SUVs aren't exactly what come to mind when you think of performance, electric SUVs from Tesla, Porsche, and even Ford’s Mustang Mach-E have raised the bar in the segment. I think the Elroq will be a good choice for drivers who want driving dynamics and acceleration, but how do they stack up against their sportier competitors?

Not every EV needs to be a rocket ship, look. For what it is – a practical family SUV – the Elroq’s performance sounds perfectly fine. Not everyone is out trying to set lap records on their grocery run.

I don't know, man. Once you’ve felt the instant torque of a performance EV, it’s not a simple thing to go back. Those used to sportier options may find the Elroq a little bit underwhelming.

I think Skoda made the right call here as someone who has owned both 'regular' and performance EVs. Instead of trying to win a numbers game they can’t compete in, focus on efficiency and range.

All of you are forgetting about handling. Acceleration isn't everything raw. With a well sorted suspension setup and weight distribution, this could be a really fun car to drive, even without crazy horsepower.

I'm actually glad to see an EV that doesn't try to melt your face off in the acceleration department. Perhaps that's what it means — they've put more effort into other areas like build quality and practicality.

The RWD setup intrigues me. This isn't going to be the fastest car in a straight line, but if they've got the balance right, this could be a surprisingly fun car to drive.

Because, let’s be real, most people buying this car won’t care about 0-60 times. What they want is something comfortable, efficient and easy to live with. The Elroq sounds like it delivers on that front.
