How reliable was the build quality on the Nexon as alleged by Tata?

Sustaining build quality, owing to the 5 star Global NCAP rating the Nexon has garnered is something that Tata Motors has been extremely vocal about. They have marketed the Nexon as a tough and sturdy vehicle which can withstand the Indian road conditions. To be fair though, there has been some debate among owners and car snobs alike about if the actual build quality is as good as these claims. Some users complain of poor paint quality, poor interior fit and finish and panel gaps. Some love how the doors and whole structure feel solid. We also discuss how the Nexon's build quality stacks up to its rivals both Indian and international brands. This is an improvement for Tata, but skeptical few are convinced it is up to global standard. Others feel it’s just as good or better than a number of other much more expensive vehicles. This has spawned a larger discussion about what the expectations of build quality should be in various tiers of pricing, and if Indian manufacturers are really up to international levels.

You guys forget, that build quality is not about only how it looks. In real world accidents the Nexon has delivered. What really counts is those gaps in panels.

Overall, I think the build quality is fine, but Tata over sells it a bit. Good for the segment, just don't fool yourself into thinking it stands up to cars twice its cost. Managing expectations is all it’s about.

The improvement is night and day from someone who has owned both the old and new Nexon. Is it perfect? No. It's a big step in the right direction for Indian cars.

The thing that matters for safety is that the structure is solid. It fits and finishes could use some work. They made the crash structure, but forgot to pay attention to the details.

Real talk, it’s a hit or miss. Some go out great, some have issues. Tata’s quality control is not consistent yet. However, when you do have a decent one, it’s really good.

I think people are too harsh. Don’t compare it to luxury cars, compare it to other cars in the price range. What you do get for the money is more than acceptable in terms of build quality. It's a big jump for Indian cars.

Solid? Did you check the panel gaps? All over mine has inconsistent spacing. The paint quality alone is worth not getting me started on. But it's better than what we had with old Tatas, though still not in global terms.

I’ve had my Nexon for a year now and the build is solid. It's solid on the road, closes pleasantly with a big thunk. It’s not perfect but, for the price, it’s impressive.
