How reliable is the Alfa Romeo MiTo compared to its rivals?

For years, the Alfa Romeo brand has been known for passionate design and driving experience, but also for questionable reliability. As a more modern offering, the MiTo raises the question if Alfa has learned anything. The MiTo's stylish looks and engaging drive make for much debate among potential buyers and car enthusiasts, who often question whether the looks and drive are worth the potential headaches that go with ownership. Most of the discussion centres on whether the MiTo is as reliable as other superminis in its class, like the MINI Cooper or Audi A1. The experience of common issues, the maintenance cost and ownership satisfaction are shared by people. It also discusses if Alfa Romeo's reputation for unreliability still falls, or whether it is a dated stereotype without valuing newer models such as the MiTo.

I've had my MiTo for three years now and it’s been surprisingly reliable. Only routine maintenance so far. With newer models, I think Alfa has really stepped up their game.

It’s still an Alfa, let’s be real. Than I'd like to admit mine's been in the shop too. It’s a constant headache of electrical gremlins. The car itself I love but the reliability is certainly not up there with Japanese brands.

My MiTo has actually been more reliable than my friend's MINI. My Alfa has been pretty solid, but the MINI seems to have more quirky issues. Maybe I got lucky?

It's hit or miss. For some people, it’s great, for others, not so much. Depends how well you keep it and if you can get a decent Alfa-specialist mechanic.

Reliability is okay, but parts availability and cost is the real issue. It can be a pain to get fixed when something does go wrong compared to more common brands.

I had a MiTo and an Audi A1. The Alfa felt more solidly built, ironically with more issues than with the Audi. Go figure!

It's not Toyota reliable, but it's not as unreliable as some people will make out. It's somewhere in the middle. You have to go into ownership with open eyes.

I feel the reputation of being unreliable is a bit old. It’s pretty reliable, my MiTo, but you have to keep on top of maintenance more than you do with other brands.

It doesn’t quite match the build quality of its German rivals, so more rattles and minor issues will occur over time. And, in terms of major mechanical problems, it’s not bad at all.
