How reliable has been the software of the Sealion 7 and how does it compare to other established EV makers?

In today’s EV, the role of software is growing ever more important, from basic infotainment functions to advanced driver assistance features. With the Sealion 7, BYD is a newcomer to the world of EVs and is being questioned about whether its software systems are reliable enough to operate. User reports of experiences range from rave reviews for the intuitive interface and feature set, to pondering how on earth a beta got this far when GCash has detected bugs and glitches. Another subject of debate is the frequency and quality of over the air updates as well as integration with smartphone apps for monitoring and control. It’s often compared to Tesla’s software ecosystem, which is generally considered the benchmark in the EV world. The efficacy of the Sealion 7's driver assistance functions, the responsiveness of its touchscreen interface and usability of the vehicle's many systems are all up for debate.

I've had my Sealion 7 for 6 months now and the software has been rock solid. There are no major bugs, and OTA updates have actually added some cool new features.

It's good, but not Tesla good. On the downside, the interface can be a bit laggy and I have had with a few odd random reboots whilst driving.

The smartphone app is a weak point. It’s often slow to connect, and remote climate control is hit or miss.

That BYD can push out updates so quickly impresses me. Most of the minor issues I had with it at launch have been fixed, and new features keep coming.

Surprisingly, the voice control is good – much better than my old Volkswagen ID.4. Most of the time, it actually understands natural language.

I have a big beef with the driver assistance features. They’re not as smooth or confident as Tesla’s Autopilot, and they sometimes disengage unexpectedly.

From the polestar 2, sealion 7's software is much more intuitive and user friendly. It's definitely competitive, but it's not perfect.

For me, a deal breaker is the lack of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The native system on the BYD just doesn't do navigation and music well at all.
