How long lasting is the Aprilia SR 160 Race?
by Sukhmandeep Kaurover 1 year ago0 views8 comments
While Honda and TVS are veterans of the Indian scooter market, this is Aprilia’s first foray into India. A performance oriented model, the SR 160 Race, is built to demand more out of its owner in terms of maintenance. How reliable and durable is it over time? What common problems do they encounter as the scooter ages? How good are Aprilia dealer's spare parts availability and service? If you are a buyer looking at this as a long term purchase, you need to understand the ownership experience beyond the initial honeymoon period. Assessing the long term viability of the scooter in the Indian context would benefit a lot from insights from owners who have had the scooter for a few years now.

Truth is, the build quality is actually quite good. The majority of reliability issues I have seen are due to neglect or abuse. Treat it well and it'll last.

Mine has 40,000 km on it and no real problems. Regular maintenance is key. It’s not Activa reliable, but it’s not a fragile Italian exotic either.

It does not work well for long term reliability. These are complex machines and to find skilled mechanics outside authorized service centers is tough.

If you take care of it, it’s pretty reliable. The engine is solid, but a few plastic bits shake themselves loose over time. Nothing major though.

Mine have given me nothing but trouble. The dealer support is awful and constant electrical issues. For safety, stick to the known brands.

It’s not a Honda, but it’s not bad. Japanese scooters are cheaper to buy and need less frequent maintenance.

Reliability is hit or miss. For some, no problems at all, for others, niggles all the time. Smaller cities may have problems with parts availability.

It's been rock solid for 3 years now, mine. Be good to it and just follow the service schedule. No major issues so far.
