How is the KTM 1190 RC8 R different from other superbikes?

The KTM 1190 RC8 R is a distinctive design and engineering philosophy in a crowded superbike market. Unlike a lot of its Japanese and Italian rivals, the RC8 R is powered by a V twin engine, offering a slightly different character and power delivery. Additionally, KTM emphasizes adjustability and ergonomics, and the bike provides a great number of customization options that will suit any rider. The RC8 R is an approach to building a track-focused superbike based on the Austrian brand's off-road racing heritage. The result is that the RC8 R has a distinct personality in a segment that is often derided for becoming too homogeneous.

KTM’s approach to weight reduction is unique. Unsprung mass was the focus, and it really shows in the handling.

It's special because it was KTM’s first foray into a superbike. It's unrefined (in the best way).

Some models have that dry clutch which makes it sound and feel like a classic race bike.

It's one of just a handful of European V-twin superbikes that aren't a Ducati. That alone makes it special.

The frame design is unique. Stressed member uses the engine, which gives it great handling.

It is pure riding; compared to modern bikes, there are no electronics. It's all about your skill.

This is clearly KTM's off-road DNA showing in the riding position. Most other superbikes are more comfortable for taller riders.

You can’t deny its looks are love it or hate it, but you can’t deny that in a sea of samey superbikes, it stands out.

You can’t mistake that V-twin sound. Those inline fours are so much more characterless.

The adjustability is insane. You can pretty much fit the entire bike to your body and your riding style.
