How is the Interceptor 350 as a long term ownership proposition?

The Royal Enfield Interceptor 350 is often purchased by potential buyers who wonder if it will last long enough to be a good long term ownership prospect. You hear a lot about maintenance costs, spare parts availability and how well the bike ages over time. There are some owners who report having had no trouble at all, over years and high mileage, and others who have had repeated problems. The debate is also over how the Interceptor compares to Japanese competitors in terms of build quality and long term durability. Another thing to think of with resale value, as some say the bike's classic styling helps in retaining value, others worry about depreciation. In this post, I want to look at different opinions on what it's like to own an Interceptor 350 for the long haul.

It's been rock solid, I've had mine for 3 years now. But it's not any more demanding than other bikes I’ve owned and regular maintenance is key. These new RE engines are much more reliable than their old reputation would have you believe.

It's a mixed bag. I know a few people who have had electrical gremlins pop up after a couple of years but mine's been great. They are generally reliable, not quite up to Japanese standards yet.

Long term ownership is the strength of the simplicity of the bike. Less can go wrong and when something does need fixing, it’s usually simple. Plus, parts are affordable.

I worry about resale value. Who knows, they’re popular now, but will the retro trend last? It might be harder to sell in 5-10 years than a more established brand.

It’s all about how you treat the bike, long term ownership. Maintain it, don’t thrash it, and it will be good to you. I’ve seen a lot of high mile Interceptors still running.

The dealer network is one thing to consider. If you don’t live near RE service, long term ownership may be more difficult.

Mine has 30,000 miles and no major issues. The secret is to ensure you stay on top of oil changes and valve adjustments. If you do that, these bikes will run forever.
