How good is the interior space of the Qashqai?

The Nissan Qashqai has exterior dimensions which suggest it should be a spacious car inside, but there is debate over whether it actually manages to deliver. It’s certainly roomy enough for some owners; others find it surprisingly cramped, especially in the rear seat and cargo areas. Most of the discussion is centered around how the Qashqai compares to traditional hatchbacks and wagons in terms of practical space usage. But questions remain as to whether the higher ride height and SUV styling actually bring more usable interior or are just for show. The subject also intersects with the larger discussion of whether crossovers are more realistic than conventional body styles.

It’s a bit of an optical illusion. On the outside the Qashqai looks big but the interior space is just okay. The boot is decent, and adults can sit in the rear on long trips, but not in any real comfort.

For its class, I think the space is pretty good. It’s not massive but it’s a step up from a hatchback. It has an airier feel than it is because of the high roof. Perfect for a small family.

Inside the Qashqai feels huge compared to my old Ford Focus. My kids have plenty of room in the back, and I can fit so much more in the boot. I guess it’s all about perspective.

The layout is fine, but the space is better. Most awkward nooks and crannies aren't very usable. It would probably be more practical with a boxier design.

It's a mixed bag. The front space is great but the rear is tight for adults. The boot is a good size but the rear window is sloped which means it doesn't take tall items. It is a compromise between practicality and style.
