How fast is the Ioniq 5 in real world charging?
The Ioniq 5’s charging speeds on paper are impressive, with the ability to charge from 10% to 80% in only 18 minutes under the most ideal conditions. Nevertheless, in the real world, these experiences can be very different depending on weather conditions (battery temperature), the charging station capabilities, and the current state of charge. Some owners have consistently fast charging times that they claim meet the hype, while others have found the charging curve drops off much more quickly than expected. The discussion often centers on how the Ioniq 5's charging compares to other EVs for short top ups, long distance travel, and everything in between. Furthermore, the utility of the battery preconditioning feature and the effects of this feature on charging speed particularly in cold climates, is controversial. What do these real world charging experiences do to the overall ownership experience and what kind of user is the vehicle best suited for?
It’s quick, but not as quick as they say. A 10-80% charge takes me about 25-30 minutes.
When it works, it charges incredibly fast. I've hit 230+ kW several times, that's insane.
It's hit or miss. It's sometimes great speeds, sometimes very slow. A lot seems to depend on the charger.
It starts out at a great initial charging speed, but it tapers off pretty fast after 60%. Faster still than most other EVs I’ve tried.
The charging speed is really affected by cold weather. I almost never see anything close to the advertised rates in winter.
Overall, I'm impressed. It doesn’t always reach max speed, but it’s fast enough for road trips, consistently.
The feature of preconditioning makes a huge difference. The charging speed is phenomenal when it does work.
