How does the Tour M perform and how reliable is it when put in heavy commercial use against other MPVs of its class?

For this purpose, Maruti Tour M is engineered to withstand much tougher, and much more frequent use than the common variety of private vehicles. This has implications for the long term durability, performance consistency and maintenance requirements of such a system operating under such demanding conditions. It's often compared with other MPVs in its class, both those built for commercial use and those just used commercially. Things such as engine longevity, suspension durability and build quality as a whole are put under the microscope. And as the Tour M is being deployed for commercial use, there's interest in how the fuel efficiency of the Tour M fares under heavy use. The discussion often goes into real world experiences of fleet operators and drivers who have actually put the Tour M to the test in the tough commercial environment.

According to some taxi drivers, the Tour M is doing pretty good. It seems Maruti’s reliability reputation has survived into their commercial vehicles.

I think it's overrated. Yes, it's reliable, but so are most modern MPVs. Under heavy use, the Tour M really doesn't stand out in terms of performance.

The key is maintenance. The Tour M will run into lakhs of kilometers if you stick to the service schedule.

I've driven the Tour M and some competitor MPVs for commercial use and the Tour M feels a bit underpowered when fully laden. It’s a reliable, but not a top performer.

In fact, the suspension on the Tour M is really quite robust. It is better at handling Indian roads than some more expensive MPVs I've driven.

Let’s not forget the massive service network Maruti has. Even if it’s not the best performer, that alone makes the Tour M a solid choice for commercial use.

Long term ownership costs, I think, are the real test. Although not the most powerful, the Tour M is a winner for many fleet operators because of its cheap spare parts and low maintenance costs.
