How does the Supro CNG perform in the real world in crowded city conditions next to electric alternatives?
Most often used for last mile delivery and urban logistics, the Mahindra Supro CNG is a popular choice. It is advertized as a small compact with good maneuverability for busy city streets. But with the advent of electric mini trucks and three wheelers in the same segment, there's an argument for which technology is better for urban space. Instant torque and zero emissions are great benefits of electric vehicles in stop-and-go traffic. They’re also quieter, reducing noise pollution. The other hand is that CNG vehicles like the Supro have a longer range and faster refueling time. In a comparison of these options for city use, factors such as turning radius, ease of parking and driver comfort in tight spaces come into play. In congested urban areas, the choice between CNG and electric can make a big difference in the efficiency of a fleet and the day to day life of a driver.
I’ve driven both and the Supro CNG is a breeze in tight spots compared to the BNG. It has lighter steering and impressive turning radius. Sometimes fully loaded, electric vehicles can be a bit heavy.
Electric all the way to power your city! It’s also way easier to zip through traffic due to the instant torque. It’s also cleaner (no emissions, less noise) for the neighborhood and the driver. By contrast the Supro CNG feels a bit sluggish.
There are many factors, it really depends on the infrastructure. The Supro is great in cities where CNG networks are good. More time on the road means quick refueling. If you have access to fast charging for electrics, though, that could be better in the long run.
