How does the Shotgun 650 compare to other bikes of its price?
Priced between ?3.59 lakh to ?3.73 lakh (ex-showroom) the Royal Enfield Shotgun 650 is a part of a competitive segment in the Indian motorcycle market. The engine is a 648cc parallel-twin that pushes out 47.65 PS at 725, rpm, and 52 Nm of torque at 5,250 rpm. That puts it in the same ballpark as many other bikes, from other segments such as sport nakeds, adventure tourers, and other cruisers. As much as the Shotgun's straight line speed and power figures, it's about the entire riding experience — throttle response, mid range punch and engine character. I know riders are curious how it stacks up to other similarly priced options from the likes of Kawasaki, Honda, or even other Royal Enfield models in real world performance. And there's also interest in how its unique bobber styling might affect its performance characteristics relative to more conventional designs in this price range.

In city riding that low end torque makes it feel punchier than the numbers suggest, it's not winning any drag races.

It's middle of the pack performance wise. But add in the special styling and brand heritage, and it makes more sense.

It’s a step up in refinement compared to other REs. Even with power figures similar to the Interceptor, the engine feels smoother.

I’ve ridden the Shotgun and the Honda CB650R and the Honda was clearly faster, but the Shotgun was more engaging at normal speeds. The riding experience is all that matters.

The Shotgun isn’t about straight up performance. Experience is everything, the sound, the vibrations, the look. It does what it does great, in that sense.

I feel it is short of something like the Kawasaki Z650. Heavier, not as sporty, and less power. It’s got a totally different character though, so it depends on what you’re after.

At the price, the Shotgun performs pretty well. It’s not the fastest but the torque makes it a fun bike to ride. You’re also paying for the style.
