How does the Sealion 7 perform in real life in terms of range?

One of the hottest topics when it comes to electric vehicles is electric vehicle range. Official range figures are provided by manufacturers, but real world performance can be vastly different depending on driving conditions, the climate and how the individual drives. Claimed range numbers for the BYD Sealion 7 are impressive, but in daily use, users are reporting mixed results. Actual range is dependent on factors such as highway speed, temperature and terrain. In ideal conditions some owners are reporting exceeding the official range, while in colder weather or at higher speeds the range has been decreased significantly. The question of whether the Sealion 7 is efficient enough to warrant use over competitors like the Tesla Model Y or Hyundai Ioniq 5 on public streets has not been settled, with various conditions determining factors that shape individual experiences.

For city driving, I’ve found the range to be pretty spot on, but it falls off quickly in the hills. This is something to think about if you live in a mountainous region.

Preconditioning the battery before long trips is the key. Makes a huge difference in cold weather efficiency.

The Sealion 7 seems to be more consistent in its range estimates than my old Tesla. I hardly get range anxiety anymore.

Winter’s been hard on the range and I live in a cold climate. When temperatures are below freezing I'm seeing a 30-40% drop.

That really depends on how you drive. With a gentle touch on the accelerator and making good use of regenerative braking, you can easily beat the official numbers.

In particular, on the highway, the range tanks, especially above 120 km/h. On long trips I am lucky to get 70% of the claimed range.

I’ve been using my Sealion 7 for a few months now and I’ve been getting around 90% of the claimed range in mixed driving. Not bad at all!
