How does the KTM 1190 RC8 R perform on the street and on the track?

by @geeta.autosover 1 year ago0 views10 answers
The KTM 1190 RC8 R was a high-performance superbike aimed at tackling both the racetrack and public road. This dual-purpose design philosophy brings with it unique challenges and trade-offs. The bike's engine is powerful, the suspension is advanced, and the design has been perfected for aerodynamics, all with the intention of competitive performance on the track. But the same features could also make the bike a tough one to ride on public streets, and raise questions about comfort, practicality, and ease of use in everyday traffic situations. A topic of much banter among sportbike aficionados is the balance between track prowess and street usability, although some are willing to sacrifice street usability for outright performance, while others prefer a more all-around machine.

In stop-and-go traffic, the engine heat can be brutal. It's a lot happier when it's moving on track or at least on an open road.

On public roads in the wet, it's a handful. Not the best choice for year-round street riding.

The adjustability is key. It can be set up for track days and then adjusted for street riding more comfortably.

Honestly, it's overkill for the street. You could never use even half of it without breaking every law.

In fact, I actually like it on the street more than some of the other superbikes. Its upright seating position is helpful in traffic.

It's thrilling on track because of the lack of electronic aids, but nerve-wracking on unpredictable public roads.

First and foremost, it’s a track weapon. It’s street riding possible, but it’s not its natural habitat.

Surprisingly manageable on the street, I've found. In the city, the V-twin has good low end torque.

But the ergonomics that work so well on the track can be a pain for long street rides. In traffic, it isn't exactly comfortable.

On the track, it's a beast. It's a beast... on the street, but it has to be tamed.
