How does the Continental GT 650 Mr Clean fare on long rides as a cafe racer?
Cafe racers are sporty looking bikes that ride reasonably aggressively and can be a bit uncomfortable on long trips. Styled as a cafe racer, the Continental GT 650 is built on a more modern platform. The debate among riders is whether it hits the right balance between style and comfort for long trips. There are those who say the slightly hunched riding position becomes tiring after a few hours, and those who say they can ride all day with no problems. It’s often discussed how good the bike’s suspension and comfortable the seat are. The debate is also there over whether touring requires aftermarket mods like different handlebars or seats. Enthusiasts often compare the long distance comfort of other modern cafe racers.
It's surprisingly comfy! I felt great and did a 500km trip. It looks a bit relaxed for a riding position.
Good for short trips, but anything longer than 2 hours and my wrists are screaming. Need to mod for long rides though.
I've toured on mine without problem. Proper riding technique and taking breaks is all it is.
The GT 650 is a sofa on wheels compared to my old Thruxton. No complaints on long rides.
It's okay, but not great. On long hauls I added bar risers and a better seat for real comfort.
The stock setup is no compromise. Most fine for, but serious tourers will want to make changes.
It depends on your body type, I think. I'm 6'2" and long rides are cramped. But my shorter friend loves it.
