How does the Chetak 2903 compare in extreme weather conditions?
India’s diverse climate makes electric vehicles a tough sell and the Bajaj Chetak 2903 is no exception. The weather in Pakistan is exceptionally variable ranging from scorching summers in the north to monsoon rains in the west and chilly winters across regions; all of which can alter an EV's motility. Temperature extremes can affect battery efficiency, range and overall functionality. A few users have even seen drops in range in peak summer months, or problems with battery performance in cold weather. Then there is the question of how well the electrical components of the Chetak will hold up to heavy rains and waterlogged streets during the monsoons. Scooter's adaptability to different climates has been a real world challenge, and therefore much has been said regarding it, but several questions about whether Bajaj has done enough to ensure consistent performance across various weather conditions have also been raised.
I’ve ridden my Chetak through a Delhi summer and it fared pretty good. But the range does suffer a bit when it's really hot, though not quite as much as I thought it would. It looks like the cooling system does its job.
At first, monsoon season was a bit nerve wracking, but the Chetak did a better job with water logged streets than I thought it would. You just had to be careful with deep puddles. No electrical issues so far.
It’s a bit rough on winter mornings. I've seen a bit less range and the battery takes longer to warm up. Not major, but worth knowing.
But the weather's pretty mild. I'm in Bangalore. I haven't seen any performance changes across seasons. Maybe I'm just lucky?
The range is definitely affected by the summer heat but I've found that parking in the shade and riding early morning or evening helps a lot. It’s all about changing your habits.
