How does the Bullet 350X fare for long distance touring when compared to other bikes in the same class?
Motorcycle enthusiasts in India are long distance touring enthusiasts and many of them go for cross country rides or go explore remote parts of the country. The comfortable riding position and legendary status of the Bullet 350X make it a go to for such adventures. Opinions are divided as to its suitability for longer trips. Seat comfort, fuel efficiency, luggage carrying capacity and reliability over long distances become factors. There are those riders who swear by the Bullet’s ability to glide over mile after mile, and others who enjoy riding more modern tourers featuring the latest gadgetry. The bike’s touring capabilities are debated heavily (relatively low power output, basic suspension). Furthermore, many tourers prefer that the service centers and spare parts are also available in remote areas. The debate can be whether the Bullet's charm and character compensates for its shortcomings as a serious long distance riding tool.
Surprisingly good for touring is the Bullet 350X! With an upright seating position, and a comfortable seat these will make long rides a breeze. And the low end torque is just right for highway cruising. My's has done several 1000+ km trips with no problems.
Short tours are okay, but for serious long distance riding there are so much better options. After a few hours, the vibrations get tiring, and the lack of wind protection on highways is a real pain. Plus, the small fuel tank means you will be stopping often.
If you're not in a hurry, I think it's a great tourer. The relaxed riding style and classic looks create a great ride. It’s just that you have to be ready to stop for maintenance more often than with Japanese bikes.
It’s not the best for touring honestly. When fully loaded, you can tell that you lack power, especially in hilly areas. But the basic suspension is very uncomfortable on rough roads. Hardcore touring is more its domain, not leisurely rides.
The Bullet 350X is the ultimate touring machine for me. It’s all about the experience, the sound, the feel and the looks. It's not the fastest, or the most comfortable, but it has soul. That makes every journey special.
