In the sportbike world, 150cc, Japanese manufacturers like Yamaha, Honda and Suzuki hold a lot of sway. Aprilia Tuono 150 is the Italian flair and racing pedigree in this arena, but how does it fare against its more established rivals? These include; performance, build quality, reliability, maintenance costs and overall value for money. The Aprilia, they say, has an advantage in terms of exclusivity and performance because it's in a premium position, while others claim that the Japanese bikes offer better reliability and running costs. But there's also the question of if the Tuono's unique styling and heritage merit its usually higher price tag over its competitors. How does the Tuono 150 stack up in this hotly contested category? Let’s find out.

The Japanese bikes have way less character than the Tuono. For the cool factor alone, it’s worth the extra cost.

You can't beat Japanese reliability. The Aprilia might be more flash, but give me a bike that starts every time.

On another level is the performance of the Tuono. Compared to the tamer Japanese 150s, it's basically a mini superbike.

The Aprilia will eat you alive on maintenance costs. If you want to save money long term stick with a Yamaha or Honda.

The Tuono has noticeably better build quality. Next to the budget oriented Japanese bikes, it feels like a premium product.

You’ll find that Japanese bikes don’t have as bad resale value and parts are easier to find. The Aprilia is impractical, but cool.

The Tuono is unique and I love it. R15s and CBR150Rs don’t come by every day.

Everything in the Japanese 150 class is blown away by the Aprilia electronics package. To compare them is almost unfair.
