How does the Aprilia GPR 250 compare to the RS4 125?

The Aprilia GPR 250 is frequently regarded as the spiritual successor to the popular RS4 125, the bike that had a sporty character and nice design. Both bikes are aimed at younger riders or those looking for a sporty small displacement machine and both share Aprilia's racing DNA. But there are major differences between the two cars — not just engine size, but in design philosophy, technology, brand positioning. Riders who enjoyed the RS4 125 are now curious about how the GPR 250 continues on the legacy, or if the new model has lost some of the magic that made the previous one so popular. And these two bikes are often compared, and often sparks debate on the evolution of Aprilia's small capacity sportbike lineup.

The GPR 250 is a massive step up. It has more power, better tech, and it feels like a proper sports bike for the first time, rather than a sporty 125.

The RS4 125 is what I miss: its simplicity. The GPR 250 is over engineered for what it is and I bet it'll be a nightmare to work on.

They are totally different beasts. The GPR 250 is more of a mini superbike, but the RS4 was a great learner bike. It's not a direct replacement, it's an evolution.

On paper, the GPR 250 looks better, but the RS4 125 had a charm that is hard to repeat. More doesn’t always mean better.

As an RS4 125 owner, I can say the GPR 250 feels like a more mature bike. The show has grown up with its audience.

The RS4 was easier for new riders to get into. It looks like the GPR 250 is aimed at a different crowd — perhaps the 125s stepping up.

They are both great in their own right. The GPR 250 is what we need now, the RS4 was perfect for its time. It's all about context.
