How does it compare in the handling to the other hatchbacks of the time?

Driving enthusiasts have always talked about the Maruti Ritz's handling. The taller profile and shorter wheelbase of the car engender a unique driving dynamic to other hatchbacks of its era. Its nimble feel in city traffic earns some driver praise, but some complain of body roll in corners because of its height. The car’s light steering is at once lauded for its ease in getting around town, and lambasted for providing little, if any, feedback above cruising speeds. Its setup in suspension, which has long been the subject of debate, has also been hotly debated. It's hard not to compare the Ritz to some contemporaries like the Swift and i20, and opinion is split over whether it can stand up to those rivals or doesn't measure up in terms of what car you get your foot down in or if it’s stable and confidence inspiring at highway speeds.

The Ritz was surprisingly nimble in city traffic. Parking and tight spots are an absolute breeze.

There's a bit of unsettling body roll in corners. At speed, you really feel the tall design.

I think the Ritz feels less planted on highways vs the Swift. Crosswinds affect it more.

Great light steering for city driving though I wish there was more feedback for highway driving.

In fact, I actually prefer the Ritz’s handling to some lower hatchbacks. I feel more confident at the higher seating position.

It's not a driver's car in any way, but it does the job as a daily. Hot hatch performance is not what you can expect, though.

At high speeds it feels twitchy because of its short wheelbase. For long highway drives, I’d pick i20 any day.
