How does Ashok Leyland Dost Plus LX perform on hilly terrain against its competitors?
by Sukhmandeep Kaurover 1 year ago0 views25 comments
Light commercial vehicles are a very competitive market and versatility and adaptability to different business requirements can be a major advantage. However, most businesses need specialized modifications to the Ashok Leyland Dost Plus LX which has a standard deck body. It could be refrigerated units for perishable goods, custom racks for furniture, or mobile shops. Customization is easy, there are authorized modification services available and the effect of these modifications on the vehicle’s warranty and performance are all important factors. Furthermore, the cost effectiveness of these customizations against the purchase of purpose built vehicles can also be significant in the decision making of the business owner. The Dost Plus LX is as flexible as it is possible to be, so let us take a look at how much it can be tailored for unique business applications.

I am owner of a small construction business and I added a custom toolbox and ladder rack. It was quite straightforward but I wish Ashok Leyland made these as factory options so that the warranty remains.

The fuel efficiency is a pleasant surprise. It gives a very consistent 18 kmpl even with a full load. My previous vehicle was a significant cost saver for my business.

It's a mixed bag. As for the vehicle itself, it is very customizable, but Ashok Leyland could offer official customization options. I had to do a lot of research to find reliable third party modifiers for my food truck conversion.

I don’t think the mileage claims are quite realistic. In heavy city traffic with frequent stops, I am getting around 15 kmpl. Not bad, but not as advertised by any means.

The Dost Plus LX is actually quite customizable. I have a mobile library and were able to fit custom shelving and a retractable awning. The design of flat bed makes it a great canvas for modifications.

I believe the mileage claims are a stretch. In Mumbai traffic I’m barely hitting 15 kmpl. However, let’s be real, Ashok Leyland, even if it’s economical.

For someone who does long haul trips, the fuel efficiency is excellent. On highway runs, I am very close to 19 kmpl. It also has lower city mileage, but still impressive for its class.

The mileage is okay but not reliable. In some trips, I am getting around 19 kmpl, and in some, it comes down to 14–15 kmpl. It seems very sensitive to driving conditions and load.

As per my experience, the Dost Plus LX is almost as good as the claimed mileage. In mixed city highway use, I’m getting about 18 kmpl, which is good for a loaded LCV.

Basic mods are decent, but anything too complex will void the warranty. Ashok Leyland was not very supportive, and I wanted to add a refrigeration unit. I ended up opting for a third party installer that was a bit risky.

I personally believe that other vehicles in this class have better customization support. Tata and Mahindra have more official modification options and partnerships, but the Dost is good.

The customization options are not impressive. I tried to get a hydraulic lift installed for my appliance delivery business and dealing with authorized dealers was a nightmare. Turned out to cost a lot more than I was expecting.

The Dost Plus LX has seen some pretty cool customizations. His was turned into a mobile pet grooming salon by a friend. If you’re willing to put the effort in and do some research, it’s versatile enough.

The stock configuration is fine for my courier service with a few minor tweaks. Some secure lockboxes and a GPS tracker were added. It’s not fancy, but it does the job without voiding the warranty.

One of the best features of this vehicle is fuel efficiency. I am consistently getting 17-18 kmpl, which is huge for my small delivery business. About 19.6, but not quite, which makes me happy.

I am actually exceeding the claimed mileage on my routes as a rural milk distributor. Averaging 20-21 kmpl on open roads. How you drive and maintain the vehicle is all that matters.

I am a flower delivery business owner and I added a custom rack system which works great. The payload capacity is very large and you can modify it quite a bit without affecting performance too much.

It has a solid performance, but the clutch tends to wear out a little faster than expected, particularly on hilly routes. If you are in a mountainous area, something to keep in mind.

I feel it does better than most of the competition in the hilly region and when it comes to the fuel efficiency. On the same routes I am getting better mileage than my friend’s Mahindra Jeeto.

It's good, but not perfect. A great addition would be the hill hold feature for those of us with steep starts. Ashok Leyland, please make it happen!

It's a mixed bag. For climbs it has great power, but rough mountain roads can feel a bit stiff on the suspension. I hope they adjust it to be more smooth.

It handles hilly terrain impressively. The gear ratios seem to be well tuned for climbs. But what I’ve noticed is that the engine heats up too quickly for my liking on long uphill hauls.

As far as hills go, the Dost Plus LX does pretty well, but braking on the descents could be better. There have been a few scares on long downhill stretches.

It's decent, but not exceptional. On really steep roads, I find it struggles a bit when fully loaded. However, in these conditions, it seems the Mahindra Bolero Pickup has a slight edge.

I have driven the Dost Plus LX in the Western Ghats and it is a beast! However, the torque really shines on those steep inclines. The vehicle is way better than my old Tata Ace that struggled with full loads.
