How does a bike like the CB650R fare on long-distance touring in comparison with dedicated touring bikes?

Although the Honda CB650R is primarily a street bike, riders are naturally curious about its potential for use on longer trips and touring. It's a great option for anyone looking for a do-everything machine that will get you through the daily commute and to your weekend adventures with ease thanks to the comfortable upright riding position and powerful engine. It does, however, miss some of the characteristics you'd expect to find on touring-specific motorcycles, like wind protection and luggage capacity. When we talk about this topic, we usually discuss the trade-offs between sport-oriented naked bikes and purpose-made tourers and the modifications and accessories that can make the CB650R a more tourable machine. CB650R riders talk of their long trips, revealing how comfortable the bike is, how efficient it is on fuel, and how fit for long rides it is.

Surprisingly, I’ve done a 1000-mile trip on the CB650R, and it was comfortable! All you need to do is add a windscreen, and you're good to go.

Yes, it’s good for weekend trips, but for serious touring, I’d like something with more wind protection.

It’s a little bit of a pain that there aren’t many options when it comes to luggage, but with some creative packing, it’s manageable.

On a tour it handles beautifully on twisty roads (which I love). It’s much more fun than a big, heavy tourer.

It wouldn't be as good for long distances when it came to the fuel range. I stop more than I should.

It's a jack of all trades. It’s not the best tourer, but it’s versatile enough to deal with it well.

I added a comfort seat and bar risers, and now it’s perfect for my weekend getaways.

For longer rides, the engine is smooth, but I found myself missing cruise control on the highways.

It's all about expectations. It’s great for touring if you’re okay with a sportier ride.

Dedicated tourers, I prefer it over. It's still more comfortable for long hauls, but it's more engaging.
