How daily usability of owning a Hyundai Nexo compares to the daily usability of owning a traditional electric vehicle?
As a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle, the Hyundai Nexo provides a different ownership proposition than that of battery electric vehicles (BEVs). Both types of vehicles produce zero emissions, but the fueling method and overall practicality of use are very different. The Nexo's quick refueling times — like a gasoline car — can be a big advantage over the longer charging times of BEVs. But in many areas, the lack of hydrogen fueling stations make daily use difficult. However, with BEVs you can charge every day at home, at night time. The question of long term reliability and maintenance also arises — fuel cell technology is less common and potentially more complex than battery electric systems. Moreover, hydrogen production versus electricity generation for BEVs is a matter of ongoing debate among eco conscious consumers as to their environmental impact.
I’ve owned both, and the Nexo is great if hydrogen is available. For daily use however, I find a regular EV more convenient because I have a home charger.
The Nexo refuels quickly. Waiting around for hours to charge on long trips is finally a thing of the past.
In theory, the Nexo should be more convenient, but without hydrogen stations, it’s a pain to use.
The Nexo is great because I don’t have to worry about charging times, but planning trips around hydrogen stations is stressful.
Being a tech enthusiast, I love having a Nexo because it’s different. It’s a conversation piece and seems sophisticated compared to your regular EV.
I've had more complicated maintenance on the Nexo. Finding mechanics that can work on it is harder.
While I appreciate the Nexo’s far longer range, I prefer having the peace of mind of knowing that I'm able to charge at home...
I prefer the Nexo to feel like driving a regular car. A zero range anxiety on my daily commute.
Hydrogen stations have been down for maintenance, and that’s a problem. With an EV at least I can always fall back to slow charging.
