Hero Splendor Plus and HF Deluxe Flex Fuel in July 2026: is the premium worth it before E85 availability is proven?
What has changed for commuter-bike buyers?
Hero has listed the Splendor+ Flex Fuel at ₹82,710 and the HF Deluxe Flex Fuel at ₹72,792 (both ex-showroom, Delhi). These versions are designed for E20 to E85 petrol blends, with availability announced for Delhi and selected regions of Maharashtra from July 2026.
Price and availability at a glance
| Model | Listed/current ex-showroom price | Fuel compatibility | Initial availability |
|---|---|---|---|
| Splendor+ Flex Fuel | ₹82,710 | E20–E85 | Delhi and selected Maharashtra regions from July 2026 |
| HF Deluxe Flex Fuel | ₹72,792 | E20–E85 | Delhi and selected Maharashtra regions from July 2026 |
The practical decision is not only about the purchase price. Before choosing a flex-fuel version over the regular model, buyers should confirm whether E85 is actually available on their usual routes and ask the dealer about servicing, warranty terms and local stock. The models can also use E20, but that does not by itself prove a lower running cost or a nationwide E85 rollout.
For a daily commuter, would you pay the listed premium now, or choose the regular model until fuel availability and real-world costs are clearer? Please weigh your city, expected annual kilometres, local fuel options, service access and resale expectations.

The Financial Math Doesn't Add Up Yet
While the prospect of cheaper E85 fuel is appealing, the current practical realities in India paint a very different picture. Hero MotoCorp's commuter segment is built entirely on the promise of maximum savings, but the flex-fuel versions require complex fuel injection systems and anti-corrosive materials that naturally push up the initial acquisition cost.
Current Fuel Infrastructure Bottlenecks
According to recent automotive discussions, the rollout of E85 dispensing stations is incredibly slow, mostly limited to a few experimental booths in Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh. If you live in a city like Chennai or Hyderabad, finding E85 is almost impossible today. Until the price gap between standard petrol and ethanol becomes wide enough to offset the lower energy density of ethanol—which actually reduces fuel efficiency by about fifteen to twenty percent—the standard Splendor+ remains the smarter, value-conscious financial choice.
Long-term Durability Concerns
There is also the question of maintenance. Ethanol is highly hygroscopic, meaning it absorbs moisture easily, which can lead to rusting in the fuel tank and clogged injectors if the bike sits idle during the monsoon season. For a daily commuter who wants zero-headache ownership, sticking to the proven, standard petrol model is the safer bet until the ecosystem matures.
From an analytical standpoint, paying an upfront premium for the Hero Splendor+ or HF Deluxe Flex Fuel variants in July 2026 seems highly premature. Based on industry reports, municipal fuel pumps in major cities like Bengaluru and Delhi still do not have dedicated, consistent supplies of E85 ethanol. Buying a flex-fuel bike today means you will end up running it on the standard E10 or E20 petrol anyway, rendering the expensive engine modifications and the price premium temporarily useless.
There is another angle to consider here. In my view, buying the flex-fuel variants in 2026 is actually a smart way to future-proof your asset. If you plan to keep your motorcycle for the next ten years, buying a standard petrol bike now might lead to rapid depreciation or compliance issues as government blending mandates tighten. The premium is small enough to be viewed as an insurance policy for the future.
The Long-Term Hype vs. Ground Reality
While the concept of green mobility is appealing, the current infrastructure bottleneck makes the premium hard to justify. Based on automotive industry reviews, several practical challenges remain completely unaddressed for the average commuter in Patna or Jaipur:
- Fuel Availability: Except for a few pilot pumps in select metropolitan areas, finding E85 is nearly impossible for the average daily commuter.
- Lower Energy Density: Ethanol has less energy content than petrol. Even when E85 becomes widely available, you will experience a 15% to 25% drop in fuel economy, which directly impacts the daily running costs of budget-conscious riders.
- Corrosion Concerns: While Hero has upgraded the fuel systems, seals, and tank linings to handle the highly corrosive nature of ethanol, we still do not have long-term real-world data on how these components age over five or six years in Indian coastal humidity or extreme monsoon conditions.
If you need a reliable workhorse today, saving that premium of ₹4,000 to ₹7,000 and buying the standard OBD-2 compliant BS6 Phase 2 models seems like the smarter, safer bet.
From a purely financial standpoint, paying any upfront premium for the flex-fuel versions of the Splendor+ or HF Deluxe right now feels premature. Since E85 fuel stations are practically non-existent across most Indian cities in mid-2026, you will end up running these bikes on standard E10 or E20 petrol anyway. Why pay extra today for technology you cannot utilize tomorrow morning?
