For longer trips, how does the Aftek Elmo stack up against gas powered scooters?

When it comes to range, the Aftek Elmo is quite the electric scooter, but how does it compare to regular gas scooters for longer journeys? Do you find advantages for the electric powertrain on longer rides, or does range anxiety become a real problem? Comfort, storage capacity and the ability to carry a passenger, what about those? And what does it cost in the long run, including fuel (or electricity) prices and maintenance? So for those who want something more than a short commute or errands, let’s take a look at the pros and cons of choosing the Elmo over a gas scooter.

I swapped out a 125cc gas scooter for the Elmo, and it's great for my 30km round trip commute. It is so much quieter and no more gas station stops. Instant torque is also addictive!

On longer trips, the Elmo causes real range anxiety. I wish I could just fill up as quickly as I used to at a gas station. It can be a pain to plan routes around charging stops.

It's a lot more comfortable for longer summer rides when there's no engine heat on the Elmo. We will no longer have roasted legs at stop lights!

For trips over an hour I find the Elmo’s seat less comfortable than my old gas scooter. It might just be personal preference, but something to keep in mind for long hauls.

It's a huge plus to frequent riders that the Elmo requires less maintenance. Oil changes and spark plug replacements are a thing of the past. The tires just need to be inflated, and you’re good to go.

I do miss the storage space under the gas scooter seat. That room is taken up by the Elmo's battery, so you have to get creative with cargo solutions for longer trips.

Elmo's regenerative braking is brilliant for extending range in hilly regions. In fact, I get better real world range than advertised on some trips.

There's a lot of mental fatigue that comes with watching your battery level all the time on long rides. Gas is a different kind of stress.
