Does the XUV500 offer the ride quality expected out of SUVs in the segment or not?

The SUV segment has changed a lot since the Mahindra XUV500 was introduced quite a while ago. It’s this question that aims to see how the XUV500 fares in terms of ride quality against more modern competitors. How does the suspension tuning age in comparison to the more recent ones? What are its capabilities in different road conditions - smooth highways, rough patches and potholes? Is the ride any different between these earlier models and the later facelifted versions? We’re also going to analyse the XUV500’s strengths and laggards in terms of ride quality vis a vis its contemporaries and newer entrants.

I've driven the XUV700 and the XUV500, and to be honest, the ride quality of 500 is still decent. It’s not as refined as the 700 but it’s still comfortable for long drives. It soaks up bumps nicely, and feels planted on highways.

I have come from Hyundai Creta to XUV500 and the ride quality is a little on firmer side. It’s not uncomfortable, but you feel more of the road. But it means better handling, particularly on twisty roads. I'm happy with it as a trade off.

It is decent ride quality but gets compared to newer SUVs like the MG Hector or the Tata Harrier. The XUV500 has more body roll, and isn't as composed on really bad roads. That being the case, it is still a comfortable SUV, for what it is, a big, rugged SUV.

The ride quality varies a lot depending on the model year, I think. Early XUV500s were quite bouncy but the facelifted versions (and especially after 2018) have much better tuned suspension. And while it's not class leading, it's comfortable enough for most situations.

I've driven the XUV500 pretty extensively on both city roads as well as highways and I'd say the ride is mixed bag. It’s comfortable on smooth roads and does a good job of handling highway cruising. It can be a bit unsettled on really bad patches, though. It feels a little old-school compared to newer SUVs, which I think some people will actually prefer.
